Negotiation

Three rules of thumb most people skip

1
Always counter.
94% of recruiters expect a counter-offer. Not asking is the only way to definitely lose.
2
Negotiate the package, not just base.
Joining bonus, extra leave, remote days, learning budget โ€” all easier wins than base.
3
Get it in writing first.
Don't quit your current role until the new offer is signed. Verbal offers fall apart all the time.

FAQ

Salary questions, answered

What is the average salary in UAE?

Average monthly salary in the UAE varies widely by sector โ€” entry-level roles typically start AED 6,000โ€“10,000, mid-level professionals earn AED 14,000โ€“22,000, and senior specialists earn AED 25,000+. Use the calculator above for role-specific figures.

Are UAE salaries really tax-free?

Yes โ€” there's no personal income tax for residents in the UAE. However, employers do not provide health insurance for free in some emirates, and end-of-service gratuity replaces the equivalent of a pension, so factor those in when comparing offers to taxed countries.

How much does a software engineer earn in India?

Entry-level software engineers in India earn ~INR 35,000โ€“55,000 per month, mid-level (3โ€“5 years) INR 70,000โ€“1,20,000, and senior engineers INR 1,50,000โ€“2,50,000+. Compensation can be significantly higher at top-tier product companies.

Should I negotiate my first job offer?

Yes โ€” almost always. Recruiters expect a counter-offer, and the salary you start at sets the baseline for every future raise. Even a 10% bump on your first role compounds into significant lifetime earnings.

Salary Guide 2026 โ€” UAE, India, UK, Canada, Australia

Knowing what you should be paid is one of the most undervalued career skills. Joboful's free salary guide gives you up-to-date benchmarks across five major markets โ€” the UAE, India, UK, Canada and Australia โ€” covering ten of the most-searched roles, from software engineering to nursing to project management. Use the calculator at the top of the page for quick estimates, and request a personalized report for a deeper breakdown.

Why salaries differ so much by country

Three factors dominate: cost of living, tax structure, and labour-market depth. The UAE pays well partly because there's no income tax โ€” your gross salary is your net. The UK and Canada have higher absolute numbers but a larger share goes to taxes and contributions. India offers lower nominal salaries but extreme purchasing power, especially in tier-2 cities. Always compare offers in net-of-tax terms when relocating.

Salary by experience level

The biggest salary jumps usually happen between your second and fifth year, then again at the senior-to-lead transition. Mid-career professionals in IT, finance and project management routinely double their pay over those two windows. Plan job changes around them โ€” internal raises rarely match external offers.

Fresher and student salary expectations

Fresh graduates often accept whatever's offered, then realize months later they were 20โ€“30% below market. The fix is two things: research before you accept, and always counter at least once. Our Fresher Salary Playbook (above) walks through both, with example scripts for the negotiation conversation.
